Quilting: working on the new project

I recently joined up with the local chapter of the Modern Quilt Guild to make some new friends and find quilting support as I tackle my next quilt project. The Chicago Modern Quilt Guild gathered for a regular meeting over the weekend, just in time to give me a little boost of sewing and quilting inspiration!

My favorite part of the meetings is always the show-and-tell part, and you can visit the Chicago Modern Quilt Guild group on flickr if you'd like to see what the group is stitching up, too. It's so inspiring to see what everyone is making!

This month's meeting happpened to be Demo Day, where members have a chance to learn from each other.  Emily taught us hand embroidery basics, where I was SUPER EXCITED to learn how to embroider a French knot! For some reason, even when following written instructions, I just couldn't get the hang of it on my own. I also learned some tips on free-motion embroidery from Karen which I'll file away for use on my next quilting project.

And speaking of my next project, I finished drawing up a basic pattern and am waiting for the dyes to arrive so I can get started! Yay!

Oh, and on the subject of starting new projects, I just decided out of the blue that I really want to make a duct tape dress form. And I really don't know where I'm going to find time to fit THAT in! (This is exactly how I get myself in trouble...) So, anyone out there made one of these? And to you have a favorite tutorial or any great tips about making a custom dress forms?
