The BurdaStyle Sewing Handbook

The BurdaStyle Sewing Handbook came in the mail this week! I have to admit that seeing my photos in a book for the first time is pretty thrilling. That's my old sewing room there on the left, and my button storage baby bottle photo on the right (pages 10 and 11).

Looking at these pictures sure does make me miss that sewing room in the old house. So much great light in that room! Oh, and one more photo on the next page...

...of my old inspirational magnet board above the thread storage rack. I did enter these photos for BurdaStyle to consider for the book, but I'm still disappointed at not being notified (until now) that the photos were included in the book, and not getting credited correctly for the photos or being identified as a BurdaStyle member like some of the other contributors.

On the upside, it is a nice book. All the patterns are included, and each of the 5 basic patterns includes three alternative styles, which means there are really 15 different patterns to choose from. Not to mention that the basis of this book is to give the reader ideas on how to make each pattern personal with some slight alterations. The book also includes some basic information for beginners like a glossary of terms, an explanation of basic tools, and lessons on choosing fabrics and cutting out patterns.

It's a great book if you like the BurdaStyle esthetic and are a beginning sewer to garments, and overall I'm really glad that I ended up being part of this project!
