Sewing and spring cleaning

I finished up Kate's crib skirt and sheet yesterday. After searching for a crib sheet tutorial, I settled on this one from Kymy at Everything Your Mama Made & More. It was simple and easy to follow and the results speak for themselves!

Kate absolutely LOVES the fabric, this morning we found her talking to herself (in her own language, she doesn't speak english yet!) and pointing at ALL the different birds on her sheet.

This was a great excuse to do a little early spring cleaning, so her room got a through going-over. Kate's room has been a work in progress, especially since she came early! We decided to decorate her room with birds, and it's been fun to find and add bird-related decorations. Like those bird counting cards on the wall from The Land of Nod.

The little girl in the painting above Kate's crib is me when I was itty bitty and was painted by my mother. I still have that pink teddy bear along with a few of my other childhood toys high on a shelf in Kate's room.

My husband built this shelf/clothesbar especially for Kate since there is no closet in her room - and it has worked great! Tom also built the branch hanger on the right for the lantern (also from The Land of Nod), and the bird decals were a gift from a friend.

We made the bird-mobile hanging by the window together using this tutorial and free pattern from Spool Sewing. The three birds hanging on the pegs were a pattern from the fall 2008 issue of Quilting and More magazine. And, I made that growth chart on the left using applique patterns from an old (from 1991 and definitely out of print) pattern called Top Cat from Shirley Fowlkes "Color Me Patterns". I added the flying birds myself!

I'm still looking for a new laundry hamper to replace that ugly white one next to the rocking chair. Or maybe I should make one? Have you seen any great tutorials or patterns for laundry hampers? Yes?

Oh, and I just realized that this post meant to be about the crib sheet ended up being a tour of my girl Kate's room, so thanks for reading on! Funny how easy it is to get going once you start sharing, isn't it?

And speaking of sharing, I've been so busy this week that I have neglected keeping up with my blog reading. I hope this weekend I can find time to catch up with all of you and find out what you've been up to!

Oh that is so cute! Annabella still shares a room with us because we only have a one bedroom right now, but I can't wait till we get a house and I can decorate her room.

I'll be trying that crib sheet tutorial very soon, thanks for the link

What a sweet room for a little girl!
I would never even have noticed the laundry basket if you hadn't pointed it out! Instead of replacing it, could you cover it, paint it, embellish it, etc?
