Hod Rods and Sewing Machines

I spent some time last weekend checking out the 7th Barnyard Boogie, a car show/festival charity show hosted by The Marauders.

There were cars, trucks, motorcycles, scooters, trailers of all kinds from stock models to customs and hot rods.

I have really been paying attention to custom pinstriping, which can be very simply abstract lines as in the photo above,

very elaborate abstract designs,

or representational - all depending on the car owner's preference and the pinstriping artist's idea. I think it is really beautiful stuff - kind of like quilting stitches!

It just so happened that artist Jody Clark was on hand at the event, and it just so happened that I had a vintage Singer 301 in my car...so...

Love it. And what about you - have you ever given a sewing machine a little facelift?

Very pretty. Is it paint or decals? I love the comparison of sewing machines to old cars, and vice versa. I have one of these in a case under my desk that I need to check out and play with!

When I teach others to sew, I always compare it to driving. You steer with your hands and control the speed with the pedal. I love this additional comparison!

Such a cool idea, I would never have thought of tagging my machine. I think I may give one of mine this treatment with my personal touch.

Hey Virginia Guin Reese, thanks so much - and I'd love to see pictures if you do decorate your machine!
