Organizing the Sewing Space in the New Year
Nothing makes me feel more inspired than a clean and organized sewing space, do you know what I mean? It's been kind of a tradition the past several years that I take time in the new year to make sure my space is organized, clean, and ready for a great year of sewing. Although I'm still trying to find the best use of this space AND I still haven't found the perfect place for everything, it's getting pretty comfy down here.
Come on, let me give you a tour! This is what you see walking into the basement from the stairs. I still have to update the lighting fixtures from bare bulbs, which will probably happen in February. Bare bulbs, ugh!
Here's the industrial Singer and cutting table (which is currently covered by UFO's and stuff I still have to find a place for). I'm storing patterns and notions on the shelves above the cutting table, and the bins under the table hold smaller pieces of fabric and interfacing.
I'm currently sewing on our old kitchen table in the middle of the room. The original idea was to put a sewing table against that curtained wall. But I don't have another place to put the big Conlon magnle iron, so after everything I find myself STILL sewing at the kitchen table!
And here is my office space where I work most days - and where I am sitting typing away right now! A big difference between now and when I first shared this space with you, isn't it?

Shelves hold irons, books, and those clear bins are full of little notions like needles, pins, snaps, and zippers. I just put up that write-on/wipe-off board over the dress form to help me keep track of UFO's and try to organize my growing list of "to-sew" projects.

What kind of irons do you use? I'm always on the lookout for the perfect iron, if there is such a thing.....
And where did you get those wall racks for your thread?
Donna and Sarah - the cutting table is a free standing kitchen island from Ikea and I love it!
Bri, I have two wall hanging racks that I think I picked up at JoAnn's, and below them is a little drawer organizer that fit small spools of Madiera rayon thread - I got it from Ace Hardware.
