I'm getting ready to teach a beginning quilting class at the
Evanston Art Center this fall, and it is one of the
best opportunities to learn the art of patchwork quilting in the area!
The EAC is easy to get to, has ample parking, and offers a nice, bright classroom space. You'll be learning with me and just a handful of other students, allowing for more one-on-one time with the instructor. The class begins Thursday, September 14th, and meets for 12 sessions from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM each session (a total of 36 hours of class instruction time). Intro to Patchwork Quilting provides you twice the instruction time as similar community quilting classes (which means more time to explore all the skills and techniques used in patchwork quilting) at the same price per hour of instruction.*
What can you learn in my beginning quilting class?
Everything you need to know to complete your first quilt AND go on to do more
quilted projects at home.
- Learn how to use a rotary cutter, ruler, and mat to make perfect fabric cuts.
- Find tips and techniques for your sewing machine to stitch straight patchwork seams.
- Create patchwork blocks from a simple one-patch design to more advanced level blocks, sewing at a pace that fits your skill and comfort level.
- Make a quilted project with the blocks you sew in class; finish a baby quilt or mini quilt sampler, a table runner or placemats, a potholder or mug rug - what you make is up to you.
- Discover multiple ways to quilt your project with a sewing machine, finding a technique that fits your skill and comfort level.
- Finish the edges of your project with one of several techniques demonstrated in class.

* To find the per-hour instruction price for any class,
first find the total number of hours (multiply the number of sessions by how
many hours are in each session. For instance, a 5-session class that meets for
2 hours each session is a total of 5 sessions X 2 hours = 10 total hours.)
Then, divide the full price of the class by the total number of hours to find
out how much you are paying per hour of instruction (if the class in the
example above costs $250 total, divide 250 by the total 10 hours = $25 per
hour).
My beginning quilting class per hour cost = $14.45. I invite
