Make a Tool Roll with Customizable Pockets

I recently hung out with my husband in his workshop and saw him roll out a little pouch filled with tools. It was made of a cheap plasticy-vynil and was starting to fall apart. My first thought was "hey, I can make a nicer one of those" and then also "hey, that would be cool for sewing tools - or markers and pencils, too!"
Tool rolls aren't a new thing, and I know there are a handful of tutorials out there already, but I imagined a roll with customizable pockets that you could make just the right size for whatever you wanted to store. Plus I noticed on the plastic tool roll my husband had that the wrenches would fall out of the top end if you weren't careful, and I thought a flap could fix this issue. So yeah, I made a Custom Pocket Tool Roll for my husband that perfectly fit his tools AND kept them safe from falling out.
Then I made myself some, check it out!
This is the sewing tool roll, filled with stuff I use most often when traveling to a sew-day, class, or retreat. I made the pocket smaller at one end to hold both tall and short tools.
The flap keeps the tools in place and the whole thing rolls up nice and tight with long straps keeping it tidy and tied up.
This roll is filled with my favorite sketching and planner book pencils and markers. I made the pocket a little taller at one end since all these writing tools are closer to the same size.
I can pop the whole roll in my bag!
You can see how versatile the tool roll can be with the ability to change the height of the pocket and the width of individual tool pockets to fit exactly what you want to store. You can also tailor the look of the tool roll with fabrics that fit the tools - or the person who will use it.
